CLOSE READING

Democrats See a Two-Horse G.O.P. Race, Adding a Whip

In this article , the author does a fantastic job of using proper diction, details, and imagery in order to get point across which is that the Republican candidate is not fully decided on yet and that it is still questionable.

He uses very good diction to get his point across. He uses not very commonly used words such as "tumultuous" that do a fantastic job at getting his point across. By using more descriptive diction, the author is able to make a better point, and say more while using less words.

The author also effectively uses details to get his point across. He uses just the proper amount of details to get his point across but not so much that the true meaning is lost in the details. He uses words such as "longer and bloodier battle," details that make his point much more effective.

He also uses proper imagery to make a better point. Again i can use the quote of "longer and bloodier battle," which paints a mental picture that is not accurate but gives a very good idea of the description that the author wanted.

Response to Course Materials

Right now we have been focused on reading and annotating Ceremony which i find to be ironic because of how we just so happen to be talking about native American literature while our school is having a feud about the chieftain head logo being offensive. Anyways, i fear that i will never fully understand this momentous novel by Silko simply because of the fact that I am not used to the native American culture and do not know enough about it. I wish to learn as much as i can from the novel about Native American culture and literature but i fear that a lot of the inner meanings that Silko purposely added just went right past me. This is so far the hardest novel that we have yet to annotate and so it's kind of nice to have challenge and be able to say that i read and annotated this novel. I look forward to continuing to annotate this novel and hopefully get a better understanding of what Silko really wanted to say by writing this novel.
